Someone has to hold the instrument.
Every score on this site exists because a real person sat in a real chair with the instruments running. Scouts are those people. Not data entry: the ones who perform the measuring ritual on the community's behalf, so that everyone after them gets to know before they go.
You were probably going to work from a cafe this week anyway. Scouting is that, plus four minutes of measurement and the quiet satisfaction of making the map honest.
The deal
- $4 per certified place. A reading that passes review at a spot we needed is money in your pocket.
- We pay the coffee. The minimum polite spend at the venue is on us. Sit, sip, measure.
- Your name on the data. Every reading you certify carries your credit, and your standing grows with the map.
- Orlando first. We're filling in the neighborhoods a few sits at a time: Winter Park, Downtown, Mills 50, College Park, Thornton Park and beyond.
What a sit looks like
- Pick a spot from our wanted list (or propose your own).
- Order something, find a seat, open the ritual.
- Perch measures the Wi-Fi and noise with you while you work or relax.
- Answer the read-the-room cards, add a one-line note on the house rules, send.
- Once it clears review, the place is certified and you're paid.
The methodology is public and versioned, and the score can't be bought: not by venues, and not by us. Your readings are the proof.
One email to hello@perch.coffee: who you are, the neighborhood you know best, and how many sits a month you could do. A human reads every application.
